Streets of Rage 2 Mania

A YouTube Channel that goes by the name of 1 Credit Runs has 1-credit cleared Streets of Rage 2 on Mania, using all of the characters.

Huh, so that would prove it's possible with Blaze.

Also, the thread title made me think Sega hired fan game makers to develop a new SoR .

Going to have to get this guy to test my project LOL.

While we're on the subject though, what exactly makes Skate easier to use on the higher difficulties than Blaze?

From my experience it's to do with his powerful attacks, Blaze doesn't have much to finish the job like the other characters and imho you can't spend too much time on an enemy in mania otherwise you're getting swamped. Skate is only deceptively hard to folks that don't understand where his power lies whereas Blaze's faults begin to show very quickly when you're playing on higher difficulties.

At all? No, even without the video proof above, I know that's not true. That's kinda why I commented in the first place. I have played SOR with Blaze almost exclusively, and I have distinct memories of sitting in front of the TV in the basement back in the day until I cleared Mania. Lots of replays, to be sure. The elevator sections are murder, and I'm in no way claiming to have done it starting with one credit. But definitely do-able. If I had paid half as much attention to screen positioning as the guy in these vids, it probably would have been easier!

This is my first post, but since I'm the guy who made the videos I decided to weigh in on the conversation.

Why Mania is so hard: Once you have the triggers down, and you know you can take most enemies one or two at a time, Mania should be easy with every character. All you have to do is the greatest move in the game, the standing jump hit. Sure, you might be playing for 3 hours, but who cares. Here's the rub: there's a timer. The timer is the #1 reason why Max is the best, then Axel, then Skate and then Blaze. From levels 5 on, the timer can easily kill you three times per level.

Why people don't play with Blaze or Skate on Mania: (errr... except for me...) Max and Axel excel at keeping enemies close. Blaze and Skate are constantly, accidentally, triggering more and more enemies. Blaze can't get to enemies she just knocked down before they get up (generally speaking). Skate is awesome at reaching enemies before they get up, but he needs the full screen to work with, and so he's always triggering extra guys. Think of how easy it is to grab, throw, repeat with Max in a very limited space, or punch lock/grand upper with Axel in a limited space. Blaze and Skate need more screen and more screen equals more enemies at once.

Is it impossible to beat Mania with Blaze: Yes (except I've done it... wait what was the question?) I haven't seen or heard of anyone else doing it in one continue, even if they started with 9 lives. Someone has to do it, it's lonely here all by myself.

Is a no death Mania possible: It is in coop. I don't have a video to prove it, but my brother and I have done it. The problem with recording is it lags the game a tad, and when you're going for a no death you need every tad you can get.

Can you record the videos with the Simple Launcher? Performance wise, I don't like the new Unity Hub as much.

When the new genesis emulator came out it was really nice, a total cpu hog but the game played really smooth, then they patched it. Now I only play in the simple launcher.

Not at all, your post is very detailed. Welcome to the forums, glad to have you here! Continuing our conversation from youtube (I'm DintheAbary as you may have guessed ) I'm interested in how different your playstyle will be with factoring the neckbreaker cancel. Feel free to post any videos here when you upload them.

As for playing on mania, I personally still struggle with very hard, especially now that for the most part I've only been playing remake. the best I was able to do was making it to the elevator of hell with Max, forget getting passed stage 5 with blaze LOL.

Thanks Mr.Din, I have to be honest, I've grown to enjoy playing with Blaze but thinking back to how hard it was to beat Mania with her gives me nightmares. I'm still debating if I want to try to run Axel 1 life start 9 life end, the best i've done is a 5 life end with him. A bigger problem is if I pull it off with Axel I'm going to want to do it with Blaze and Skate, YIKES!

I've messed with the neckbreaker animation cancel, it's really cool, but for the most part I'm taking a much needed break from SOR2.

From what I can tell, there are very few Mania players out there. In most games, you find a tactic that works and you're good. SOR2 is more about knowing 20 tactics for each enemy type and on the spot adapting to the situation, and then sometimes that doesn't work.
