Arcade, Playstation, Saturn, & FM Towns (1991):
1-2 players(Player 1 as the boy, Zac, Player 2 as the girl, Mel)

FM Towns was a Japanese PC during the 5th console generation(32-bit), and the FM Towns Marty was a home console version of it, that could play any of it's games, exclusively in Japan.

Controls(arcade only):
Button 1: Attack
Forward & 1: Longer ranged attack (probably the best option for boss battles)
Down & 1: Longer ranged attack from below (good for short enemies)
Button 2: Jump
2, 1: Jump attack
Button 3: Magic (Must have at least 1 staff icon in the gray magic box near the health meter to use. Each continue gives 3)

All defeated non-boss enemies turn into animals in which you can collect for points. Bosses have a health bar(first one picture above). The magic seems to be random, and I'm not sure how many spells the game has. They're mostly different between regular enemies and bosses as well.

There's really not much to this game. In fact it's rather perplexing as to why this, of all arcade beat 'em ups, got a port to 2 5th generation consoles, and a PC(not suggesting it's bad, but it kind of gets by more on it's attempt at storytelling than game play). The fact that the PC is Japanese exclusive makes sense, as this game gets pretty crazy in a way that could only be described as "Japanese." Even the English text doesn't make much sense, and this could probably give the European translation of the Genesis port of Zero Wing a run for it's money(if the text would stay on screen long enough to be readable, and allow one to try to make sense of it).
